The Resort and Rooms, Portofino
Sandra and Jaan Van Noord and family moved from Belgium to Belize over 12 years ago and created their dream, a quintessential beach retreat in a spectacular island setting, where service and hospitality are the nucleus of the resort.
Being child friendly, it makes for a flexible base for larger family reunions and weddings, as well as family vacations. Their own children love to meet new friends and enjoy sharing their paradise with others.
There is an on site PADI certified dive shop, making it easy to schedule snorkelling, scuba diving and fishing excursions, along with inland jungle and Mayan excursions. For a day by day tailor made itinerary, at AB we can customise something that is perfect for your pace.
Portofino is located approximately 7 miles north of San Pedro town. Access is by boat only and there is a complimentary meet and greet service at San Pedro Airstrip and boat transfer to the resort.
Guests wishing to go into San Pedro for shopping, dining or exploring are welcomed to take a ride on any of these boat runs free of charge. As timings are dependent on arrivals and departures, the schedule varies from day to day. Outside of these times, there is the Coastal Xpress Water Taxi service that runs up and down the island at least every two hours, and can be reserved at the reception.
Further on site amenities include
- Spa treatments available under the palapa hut on the dock, or in your room
- Kayaks, bikes for hire, snorkel gear
- Book exchange
- WIFI in rooms and lobby
- Daily housekeeping
- DVD collection
- On site events planner

“We felt like we were part of the family! We stayed a few days in Belize before going to a wedding in Guatemala. Portofino was just what we needed. From the moment we got to there, we felt like family. Ashira is such a sweetheart. She welcomes you and makes sure you have everything you need. Raul, seemed to know a couple from New Orleans needed drinks all the time. Binky took me on my own private dive trip! Everyone at Portofino makes your feel special from the owners to the staff to the dive shop! It was so relaxing! Room Tip: I don’t think you can wrong with any of them!”
“Great people, nice facilities. Staff top notch, place was very nice. Dive shop was excellent.”
“Highly Recommend! Gorgeous, relaxing setting, with excellent staff. It has everything you need to stay and literally do nothing, yet offers great excursions for those adventurous types. The staff assists with setting everything up. Our accommodations were lovely, clean with fresh flowers daily. It wasn’t overly pretentious like some chain hotel and resorts. It is very romantic, perfect to hit the reset. There were kids there, but it doesn’t bother me, so long as they aren’t mine. However, I could see making it a fantastic and cultural family vacay, by renting out the mansion. Part of the fun and excitement is getting there! “
