The Resort and Rooms, Copal Tree Lodge

Southern Belize

Booking enquiry

Previously know as ‘Belcampo’, the lodge was born in 2011 by a group who manage farms in California, Belize and Uruguay, producing food of the highest quality and integrity. In each country, Belcampo developed methods of providing the best tasting food and drink the earth can produce, in a way that provides a clear path from farm to table.

Beyond the realms of a farm, guests are offered luxury, tranquillity and myriad Belize adventures. Located upriver from the Caribbean sea, yet situated in the midst of the rain forest and jungle, guests can enjoy the best of both worlds.

Copan Tree Lodge took the reins from Belcampo and was born in 2017. Highlights of the lodge include an exquisitely designed spa, tropical pool, sundeck, a sweeping lawn where guests gather for high tea, a communal fire pit, a 400’ private tram that transports you to the lodge’s riverside deck, a waterfront dining area and Maya bar and plenty of vantage points to soak in the spectacular surroundings (and often the ‘neighbours’… monkeys and toucans are regular visitors).

Located a short drive from the southern town of Punda Gorda in the deep south of the country, getting to Copal Tree is easy via a 40 minute light aircraft transfer from Belize International Airport and transfers between the resort and the airstrip are included.

The Lodge’s location in the lush rainforest yet close proximity to the Caribbean Sea and means that the list of activities to do will keep you stimulated for days. Fly-fishing guides take anglers out to the lagoons, rivers and world-famous salt flats, with their vast populations of tarpon, permit and bonefish. If birding is your thing there are a network of trails with plenty of lookouts and scopes. PADI-certified instructors and dive-masters take scuba divers to the best of the world’s second-largest barrier reef and this list continues, with Mayan ruins, organic farms tours, visits to local villages and even going fishing with the chef, who prepares your lunch at Mojo Caye.

The farm and food alone are reasons to visit Copal Tree Lodge – The farm generates an edible landscape full of heirloom and tropical ingredients like chaya, cilantro, okra, lemongrass and mint as well as a variety of wild spices. In addition to the diverse produce cultivated on the land, livestock is raised. Hogs feed on fruit, vegetables and sugar cane and the pastured chickens roam freely.

The Lodge Restaurant draws inspiration from Belize’s unique cultural and natural diversity. The kitchens reinterpret traditional Belizean dishes that have developed over time, with strong influences from the local Maya, Garifuna, Creole, Indian and Mestizo communities. The bulk of the ingredients are grown onsite, including corn, squash, chaya, cilantro as well as a harvest wild foods foraged from the jungle.

In addition to the animals reared at the Lodge, the restaurant sources humanely raised meat from local Mennonite farms and seasonally sourced fish from local, small-scale fisherman. Sustainability, traceability and vibrant, regional flavours are at the heart of the food. Don’t miss out on the home made breakfast sausages and bacon smoked over cinnamon and allspice cuttings from the jungle!

Luxurious agri-tourism experience Beautiful and serene tree house is what we found at Belcampo. From the arrival to the lavender face cloth to the organic farm, we found this resort to be the best way to end our diving and fishing trip in Belize. Not even the being awaken by Howling monkeys in the middle of the night seemed to bother us. Incredibly attentive staff, waiters, front desk, masseuse, gardeners and guides. Looking forward to returning to this very special place.

Paradise on earth My wife and I spent one full week at the Belcampo Belize Lodge. Everything was fantastic, the staff made us feel very special, and treated us like family. The property is very luxurious, and the rooms (and bathrooms) were extremely comfortable. The tour guides were excellent, notably Vince on the Cave Tour and taking us into town and showing us around.

In addition, the food and drink was the best we had ever had. We opted for the meal plan, which although in hindsight was much more food than we could ever eat, allowed us to sample virtually everything off of the menu. Dinner was never repeated in the 7 nights we were there, and the quality of the food & drink was superb. Hats off to everyone at Belcampo – this was the trip of a lifetime!
